Event Rules:

  • Use lifesaving spec ski and lifesaving spec board.
  • During the race competitors are not allowed to jump off the pier.
  • Should a participant pull out of the event please notify a race official or management immediately.

Swimwear:

  • Do not wear surf lifesaving skull caps (For oceanman races, ladies can wear swimming caps, however not men).
  • Try not to wear branded surf lifesaving club swimwear (not a rule).
  • Should the event provide athletes with sponsored racing vests. Please comply.

Media:

Be accommodating with the media (GoPros on craft; sponsors stickers on craft; interviews etc.)

OCEAN HEROES SURF ACTION SERIES

The Ocean Heroes are some of the strongest watermen that battle through the surf on South Africa’s best beaches. The Ocean Heroes races require great skill, endurance and character. The oceanman race consists of surfski paddling, swimming, malibu board paddling combined with running transitions. They are ambassadors for the environment and learn to swim.

The first Ocean Heroes race took place in 2014 at Umhlanga Main Beach which saw the emergence of an action packed series featuring extreme athletes.

Surf Swim – Course and Info:

There are two races. Point score based on two races. Swim around around all three buoys. Should there be a tie, last race position will be decider.

Malibu Board – Course and Info:

There are two races. Point score based on two races. Board around all three buoys. Should there be a tie, last race position will be a decider.

Oceanman – Course and Info:

Race 1: Ski; board; swim

Race 2: Board; swim; ski

There are two races. Expect distances to be a longer than standard surf lifesaving format. Also, expect shorter rest between races. There will 3 buoys in the water in a triangle. One for swim (buoy on left); the first two for board; and all three for ski. Turn clockwise. The juniors and seniors will compete together. Point score based on two races. Lowest points wins based on two races. Should there be a tie, last race position will be decider.
